GHANA – Two outbreaks were reported in Greater Accra, and one each in Eastern and Central regions.
The outbreaks were of the H5N1 strain and affected mostly layers and chicks on farms.
Over 4000 birds died and another 21,000 were destroyed as a result of the outbreaks, which occurred during April.
On high alert emergency agencies and environmental authorities in the region they are for the death of about two tons of fish in Lake Sochagota Paipa, Boyacá, as a result of lack of oxygen in the water tributary.
In one of the gaps formed by the extraction of sand in the ejido El Nayar appeared hundreds of dead fish.
David Robles, president of the Municipal Board of El Nayar, said it was Thursday morning when locals could be seen at the edge of one of these lakes hundreds of dead fish floating in the water.
General Santos City –Around 2,800 kilos of tilapia were destroyed as another fish kill hit anew portions of the critical lakes Sebu and Seloton in Lake Sebu town in South Cotabato.
Rudy Muyco, Lake Sebu town’s lake warden, said Friday the fish kill was first monitored in several fish cages at the two lakes following the onset of rains last May 14 and continued for several days.
Another mass fish kill was found in the Eloor-Edayar belt of the Periyar again on Wednesday. Dead fish were found on both sides of the Pathalam regulator-cum-bridge in large numbers.
Lack of oxygen in water is said to be the reason for the incident.
This is the second time in the last one week that dead fish has surfaced on a large-scale. Last week, fish kill was spotted on Thursday and Friday.
ITALY – Another outbreak of H7N7 highly pathogenic avian flu has been found in Italy.
The outbreak occurred in the same region, Emilia-Romagna, as an outbreak reported earlier this month. The farm was within the protection zone set up after the earlier outbreak.
