Jealousy

I am Cardinal Samantha Kennedy of the E.O.C. Today I am talking to you about jealousy envy. We all know how easy it is for us to get jealous of someone, even when our intentions are good. It is very easy for us to fall into jealousy in our society, especially when others around us are more fortunate. But, it is important for us to realize what is most important in our lives and what matters most. So what do the scriptures say about jealousy and envy.

Song of Solomon 8:6
Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD.
1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.
Philippians 2:3
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
James 3:14-15
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
Psalm 37:1-3
Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
James 3:16 
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

We need to be more like the Lord, that we are to have the perfect kind of love that God has for us. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. We as the children of God need to attain that balance.
Being jealous indicates that we are not satisfied with what God has given us.In order to combat jealousy, we need to become more like the Lord and less like ourselves. As we learn how to serve others instead of ourselves, our hearts will begin to change. “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” We have seen how Jealousy and envy backfired on the brothers of Joseph after they sold him into slavery.
